Cover Letter

Dear Glossier,

I am so excited to finally have the opportunity to apply for a role I am qualified for at my dream company. When thinking about my application, I wanted to make sure that I was able to get across how much I truly do love and align with this company, but most importantly how my skills align.

You can get a better picture of my journey with Glossier on the “Glossier Love” page in this website, but it all started back in 2013. Growing up, I had always been involved with social media in the fashion and beauty sense. I grew up as a military brat, my dad was in the Air Force which meant we moved every 2 years. I’ve lived along the East Coast, West Coast, and even in South Korea. When you grow up moving every 2 years, you quickly learn how to be self-sufficient, independent, and adaptable. Since my environment was always changing, I had to learn how to create a home within myself and my hobbies. I found a passion in how I dressed at a very young age because I wanted to reflect my personality through my style since I was always the ‘shy new girl'. When I entered into middle school I started to really dive into the makeup and beauty world, again as a way to show my personality and creative spirit. Around this time, social media like Tumblr began to gain popularity and with that, my involvement in the new world of fashion blogging. I would rush home from school to set up my Canon and tripod bought with Christmas gift cards and get to creating. Whether it was over-curated selfies, #OOTD’s or way too long beauty tutorial videos, I did it all.

Then came Instagram, and my whole world changed. From 2013 on, I was constantly posting, editing and interacting with every account I could. I would create my own social media strategies that are still popular today, and would gain upwards of 200+ followers a week. I started professionally modeling in 2015 and www.hellohihaley.com was born, along with my discovery of Glossier.

How does this all relate to a freelance social media content creator job at Glossier? Well, since I was always new, social media was a place where I could build a community that I could take with me wherever I went. I had a voice there and was able to build an incredible network of friends and connections that I still have to this day. Social media holds more weight for me than it might with others. What I love about Glossier is that it’s a brand that’s found great success through the community they’ve built through social media, the Into the Gloss blog, and of course, how they built the most functional and beautifully packaged line of makeup + skincare. Glossier understands the importance of not only having an authentic voice and content, but in building relationships with those who are loyal to the brand and listening to the needs of their followers.

In my social media career now, I always base my inspiration back to Glossier. Glossier has built one of the most tight knit and well known online communities I have ever seen and I have always felt apart of something bigger when following and shopping at Glossier.

When I was in college at Loyola Marymount University studying Marketing, I would always tell people that Glossier is what motivates me to be a better marketer and have dreamt of working for this company after graduation for as long as I can remember.

I am confident in how well I understand the marketing landscape after graduating LMU and understand social media on a deep level. After many internships and multiple freelance social media roles I understand how social media functions for a brand rather than just for myself. I can identify what makes certain content more successful than others, how to create that content, and how to grow and sustain a community. Most importantly, I understand the authenticity behind Glossier’s mission and branding and have been passionately studying it for years.

I know that I will be a great candidate for the freelance social media content creator position because it is basically what I’ve been training for since 2013. I know that I can share that same authentic voice seamlessly and can source and brief others who align with the brand just as well. I understand what success looks like and can communicate in-depth performance reports for future content/talent. I have been writing for my blog and for the brands that I have interned/worked for for many years and have received numerous compliments for my genuine writing style. I am more than familiar with platforms like Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook and TikTok and have created, managed and scheduled for all along with Instagram. I am available to start ASAP and would give this position my absolute all, because again, it is all I have ever wanted to do.

Sincerely,

Haley
